چکیده
In this study, the long-term restoration success of calcareous grasslands was investigated using a functional trait approach. The study site is located in Swabian Alb, Germany, where former grassland patch restored 1990s by clearance spruce (Picea abies (L.) H. Karst.) afforestation and subsequent reintroduction sheep grazing as mobile dispersal vector. Vegetation development monitored over period 25 years, both on an adjacent never afforested ancient which still managed traditional grazing. Changes composition fifteen ecological meaningful traits were comparing respective attribute expressions with reference for each year observation. A RLQ-analysis conducted order to identify plant groups. comparison showed that differences between decreased rapidly time. greatest found persistence-related (e.g., life span growth form) while dispersal- establishment-related recovered faster. clustering groups similarities Grime’s CSR-strategy, cluster analysis grouped species either ruderal, competitive or stress-tolerant attributes. 20 years after restoration, stress-tolerators dominated, ruderal could not longer be detected only small group competitive, mostly woody remained. 2018, RLQ revealed no grassland. quick recovery most likely attributed reestablishment low-intensive management but also close vicinity spatial isolation prevented species. Hence, approach suitable our study.

Plant species richness and functional composition drive overyielding in a six-year grassland experiment.
Plant diversity has been shown to increase community biomass in experimental communities, but the mechanisms resulting in such positive biodiversity effects have remained largely unknown. We used a large-scale six-year biodiversity experiment near Jena, Germany, to examine how aboveground community biomass in grasslands is affected by different components of plant diversity and thereby infer th...
متن کاملLong-term effect of sheep and goat grazing on plant diversity in a semi-natural dry grassland habitat
Semi-natural dry grassland sites are of great importance for nature conservation because they support high species diversity and the abundance of "Red-List" species. Grazing has proved to be a successful management tool in terms of maintenance and restoration of biodiversity. For a deeper understanding of the effects of different grazers on species biodiversity in dry grasslands, it is necessar...
متن کاملSoil Disturbance as a Grassland Restoration Measure—Effects on Plant Species Composition and Plant Functional Traits
Soil disturbance is recognized as an important driver of biodiversity in dry grasslands, and can therefore be implemented as a restoration measure. However, because community re-assembly following disturbance includes stochastic processes, a focus only on species richness or establishment success of particular species will not inform on how plant communities respond ecologically to disturbance....

Methane (CH4) emissions from ruminants should be accounted for the natural grazed rangeland ecosystems when devising greenhouse gas budget inventory, in particular, their contribution to global warming. In this study, CH4 emission from sheep respiration at different grazing intensities (light grazing, 0.75 sheep/ha, LG; moderate grazing, 1.50 sheep/ha, MG; and heavy grazing, 2.25 sheep/ha, HG) ...
